New Web site Exposes Palo Alto Shortcomings

Public unveiling on Tuesday

PALO ALTO, CA – Aiming to showcase so-called improvements to accountability and transparency, Palo Alto is launching its glossy new Web site "Palo Alto See-It" on Tuesday. But city officials are not telling the whole story.

That's why a hard-hitting Web site "Palo Alto is Falling Short" will also be launched tomorrow alongside the city's Web site. It will expose the critical details left out of the city's project and show residents the full picture of what happens "behind the books."

"Palo Alto is Falling Short" shows that although affluent Palo Alto is weathering the economic storm better than most cities, the city council is making finances worse and costing residents millions.

Among the highlights:

- The council claims to be transparent, when in fact it's playing a shell game with taxpayer dollars.

- City leaders trumped up new "efficiencies" that exist only on paper, and actually cost residents millions each year.

- City leaders continually raid the General Fund, making financial problems worse.

"Palo Alto is Falling Short" will be shown to residents Tuesday, Aug. 18, City Hall, 250 Hamilton Ave.
